This PhD project is closely connected to two major ongoing research initiatives: ISWIM – Innovative Stormwater Impact Mitigation and REWAISE – Resilient Water Innovation for a Smart Economy, both supported by the EU Horizon 2020 program. These projects are carried out in collaboration with Sweden Water Research, providing a strong platform for applied scientific development in sustainable urban water management. The primary goal of the PhD work is to systematically monitor, evaluate, and optimize the performance of an installed membrane treatment system designed for stormwater and rainwater purification. This includes regular sampling and analysis of both feedwater and permeate to assess water quality and treatment efficiency. In addition, the project also focuses on tracking membrane performance over time, identifying and characterizing fouling mechanisms, and developing strategies for effective membrane cleaning. By refining cleaning procedures and operational conditions, the project aims to enhance system reliability, extend membrane lifespan, and contribute to more sustainable stormwater treatment solutions.
